Centre for Performance and Media Health at Thames Valley University

Welcome to the Centre for Performance and Media Health. Our Centre has been established in 2007 to develop a range of facilities for studying the health of musicians, actors, dancers and fellow performers, as well as health aspects of the creative professions and of the rapidly developing new media.

We currently can offer the following taught courses:

* PG Cert course in Performance and Media Health

* PG Dip course in Performance and Media Health

* MA course in Performance and Media Health

Our lecturers in these courses are at the forefront of research and successful practice, and are the authors of several of the major texts on their subjects. This is a completely new course in its field, and the first chance in the UK to obtain an MA in Performance and Media Health.

In addition to the courses we offer, we are now opening an Arts Clinic in Ealing Broadway where performers, creatives and industry personnel - both within and outside of Thames Valley University - can obtain focussed professional help with a variety of issues affecting general health, posture, performance psychology and career progress. As well as established methods like Feldenkrais we offer specific help with stage fright and creativity, coaching for auditions and competitions, psychometric testing to help decisions on change of career and a unique creativity test to assess your type and strength of creativity.

We are committed to building an active research programme in media psychology (e.g. computer addiction, effects of videogames, censorship, Internet culture) and to encourage further research in performance health. We hope to offer an online magazine and a forum for discussion in the near future.

The Centre is in the Faculty of the Arts at Thames Valley University and we are delighted to be in close collaboration with the Centre for Complementary Healthcare and Integrated Medicine (CCHIM) within the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences .

The Centre's mission is to take a lead role in the development of facilities for performers and media and creative professionals in modern healthcare, through quality education, training and research, and to facilitate the establishment of core academic and research skills within this important and growing area.
